Why my sales page looks so bad

Here’s a little story about how I approach my YouTube business.

Including some screenshots of my finest work.

Let me take you back to February last year.

I realised the biggest bottleneck to building my business at the scale I wanted was not having a high ticket offer.

I wanted to start a coaching programme for YouTubers, but I didn’t know if there would be any demand.

So instead of whipping up a fancy landing page, I made a simple Google form.

Here’s the stunning piece of work:

That led to over 60 applications and around 15 YouTubers joining.

Nice!

I’m glad I didn’t waste any time making something more detailed, because that was all I needed at the time.

My bottleneck was not having an offer.

So I made a simple form, and it worked.

Then, delivering to all these new students became my bottleneck, so I left the application page to focus on that.

After a couple months of intense delivery, I started looking to get more students to join.

I came back to this Google form, and it looked a bit basic.

It wasn’t really showing anyone what I was doing. Plus we’d had some results by that point that I wanted to share.

The application page was now a bottleneck.

So I made a simple public Notion page which had a bit more info on it.

It looked like this and had some testimonials at the bottom.

Another grand masterpiece.

This was the landing page while we had another intake of 10 students.

Sales bottleneck sorted ✅

Back to delivery.

I left the landing page while it wasn’t a priority, and focused on making the programme really good.

Over the next few months, we had some great results, and I started to look at bringing in more students again.

And guess what?

I looked at my page and thought “man this could do with some work”.

So I made v2 of the Notion page.

One glaringly obvious issue at this point was no video explaining what the programme was. A good VSL (video sales letter) can transform your landing page conversion rate.

But here’s the thing…

It wasn’t a bottleneck!

I was still managing to make sales and find dream clients to work with.

So I didn’t bother to try improve something that didn’t need to be improved.

And I tried to focus on the thing that was actually the bottleneck in the business.

Then after the Summer, I realised Notion and Google forms had taken me as far as they could.

It had now become a genuine bottleneck in the business that was limiting my progress.

I needed a better landing page with a video to actually explain what this programme is all about.

So I filmed a video, and then made this bad boy (using Carrd)

No one can resist my nice friendly wave 👋

This new page then directly led to about a 5x in applications over night, and another enrolment of around 10 students.

And sure enough, I’ll probably make it better at some point soon.

So, why have I approached it like this?

Because bottlenecks.

In case you've not noticed yet, I think a lot about bottlenecks.

I don’t like to solve problems in my business that aren't holding me back right now.

Especially while I’m getting something off the ground.

Time is finite, and I have lots on my plate.

As well as running my business, I'm also trying to watch all 11 seasons of The Walking Dead with my girlfriend. Life is busy!

But there are only be 3 big things that can be bottlenecks in basically any business:

  1. Leads
  2. Sales
  3. Delivery

And at the beginning of your entrepreneurial journey, when you're launching something, you just flip flop between them.

Naturally, when you're focused on one you still need to keep an eye on the others. But focus is the key to progress.

What's that I hear...?

No, he's not about to mention the energy diagram again is he?

He always brings that goddamn thing up.

Tintin's not that kind of guy. He wouldn't mention the same thing over and over.

You're wrong. He is.

Bosh.

Now, let's all tattoo this on our foreheads and get back to work.

Until next time,

Bloody hell, it’s Q2. I never used to think or care about quarters, but now that I’m a fully fledged Business Bro, I have to. It’s in the manual you get given at Business Bro initiation. Along with the requirements to go gym and make content. But I'm excited about Q2, because we’ve just ticked off a big project in the business, and freed up a lot of time. I started 2026 thinking I was going to go all in on content to grow my audience. And that’s what I did...for about 2 weeks. Something felt...

There's limited spots, if you'd like to book a call to talk about whether it's right for you, you can do so here. "Repeat the same activities. Repeat the same outcomes." This is one of my favourite Hormozi quotes I've been dwelling on recently. It's taken on a new meaning for me. For a long time, I only understood this intellectually. "Sure, if I repeat the same...
