Hey Reader, meet Diane.
She's a full time consultant and mom to 2 kids. And somehow, she has enough time on the side to make videos on her personal finance channel. I'll be straight with you, Diane is a badass. Her YouTube business has completely transformed in the past 12 months. In May 2025, Diane had 5k subscribers and was getting a few outlier videos here and there, but had only made a bit of money from Adsense and sponsors. She was questioning whether all this effort she was putting into her channel was worth it. She initially started because she wanted to create another source of income to support her family long term, and share her 15 years experience advising investment banks on financial strategy. But it wasn't proving as fruitful as she'd hoped. As is the case with most of us YouTubers, because we dream we can make $1m in our first year. But then Diane made a few key changes to her business:
And THEN she instantly made $1m!! It was crazy, I was all like "whaaaaat Diane how the hell did you do that???" Sadly not. It was hard, and Diane struggled for a few months without seeing any instant changes. Shock, it didn't come quickly. But Diane persisted, and then someone on one of her calls was interested in paying her for help. She had no idea what to do or how to get them to pay, but they just wanted her to help them plan for retirement. And she ended up making her first sale: And then another for $4k. And then another for $6.5k. And then another for $10k! All without a landing page. It was a very simple process:
I know, it's almost worryingly simple. And now she has made a landing page with a great VSL, she's absolutely flying. She made almost $24k in April... Nuts. She had no offer, no sales skills and no idea what to sell, and now she has a life changing business. I know what you're thinking, Diane is in the finance space and she can charge higher prices. Yes that is true, but she's also just following the proven steps to success. Understand audience ➡️ offer to help them for money. And she's been kind enough to let me make a video all about how she did it. I'm proud of this one. I've absolutely loved working with Diane and helping her get to where she is. I'd love for you to go show her some support in the comments for all her hard work. Check it out here: Tintin 🫡 P.s. A few years ago, I read an amazing book. It's called The Go-Giver, by John Mann and Bob Burg. It's a very easy to read short story (roughly 100 pages) about a guy called Joe. Joe was a "go-getter", the type of person to go out and make life happen. And ultimately, to get more of what he wanted. As you can probably guess by the name, the book is about how giving more is actually the secret to Joe finding true success. A common theme in the business/self-help book world. It's clichéd, but true....
This morning at 8am, I walked around Highbury Fields in London. A pic from last Winter I often do this before starting a day's work. I grab a coffee and ponder life's big questions, while getting some steps in. As the sun rises on a beautiful day, I think about YouTube, thumbnails, and how no one can be truly happy without 1m subscribers on their YouTube channel. But one question I grappled with this morning was what are my guiding principles? What makes a happy business and life for me?...
I have a semi hot take on AI for you. And it's significantly reduced my AI anxiety (ainxiety?). It started a month or so back when Claude dropped their new tool Claude Design. Every man and his dog started making videos about how you could edit your entire YouTube video with it in less than 4 seconds. And suddenly my peanut-sized monkey brain throws up all sorts of stupid thoughts: "Should I be doing? Should all my clients be using this? Should I learn everything there is to know about Claude...
