Do this, and you'll make more money on YouTube

I realised something recently.

Every YouTuber I work with who's actually doing one key thing is making progress.

And YouTubers who aren't doing it don't make progress.

I've been telling people to do this simple thing for ages, but still people don't do it.

And I'll repeat it as long as I'm in this business. Because it's the simple things that work.

The secret sauce?

It's putting a link to book in a free call with you at the top of your video description and emails.

And then telling people to book in a call if they want help achieving a specific outcome.

It's so simple, so easy, and yet so many people put it off for reasons they make up in their head.

If you're not doing this, here's what to do right now:

  1. Go to Calendly.com and make an account
  2. Create a meeting where people can book in a call
  3. Name the call "Coaching Call w/ Your Name"
  4. Share as much availability as possible
  5. Add some qualifying questions so that you don't get complete randomers and you collect some information
  6. Put the link as the first or second link (behind a lead magnet) in your video description, and in your emails
  7. Talk to people who book in and ask them questions about their situation
  8. Offer to work with people who you think you can help for $1k+

Trust me, this works.

Here are some rough numbers to go by:

  • 10 calls = $0 - $10,000
  • 20 calls = $2,000 - $20,000
  • 50 calls = $5,000 - $50,000

I know that seems crazy. But it really is just a maths problem.

More calls = more money.

And I know YouTube is hard enough and time consuming enough already.

But if you want to give yourself a chance of doing it full time, this is the fastest route, and the best one to start with.

Generally, don't make any big decisions before taking at least 30 calls. Before that you don't have enough data.

Don't overcomplicate things. The simple stuff works.

A few years ago, I read an amazing book. It's called The Go-Giver, by John Mann and Bob Burg. It's a very easy to read short story (roughly 100 pages) about a guy called Joe. Joe was a "go-getter", the type of person to go out and make life happen. And ultimately, to get more of what he wanted. As you can probably guess by the name, the book is about how giving more is actually the secret to Joe finding true success. A common theme in the business/self-help book world. It's clichéd, but true....

This morning at 8am, I walked around Highbury Fields in London. A pic from last Winter I often do this before starting a day's work. I grab a coffee and ponder life's big questions, while getting some steps in. As the sun rises on a beautiful day, I think about YouTube, thumbnails, and how no one can be truly happy without 1m subscribers on their YouTube channel. But one question I grappled with this morning was what are my guiding principles? What makes a happy business and life for me?...

I have a semi hot take on AI for you. And it's significantly reduced my AI anxiety (ainxiety?). It started a month or so back when Claude dropped their new tool Claude Design. Every man and his dog started making videos about how you could edit your entire YouTube video with it in less than 4 seconds. And suddenly my peanut-sized monkey brain throws up all sorts of stupid thoughts: "Should I be doing? Should all my clients be using this? Should I learn everything there is to know about Claude...
