YouTube is changing (and what to do about it)

There is a shift happening on YouTube.

Well, sort of.

This isn’t going to be a fear mongering piece.

It’s about what’s actually happening on the platform and how you can prepare yourself for changes to come over the next 2-3 years.

And to be clear, this shift has always been happening. It’s just accelerating (shock, AI has got something to do with it).

Since year 1 of the platform, every year things have got a bit harder than the year before.

Because every year, more people come to the platform and start creating content. So the competition increases.

Typically, the earlier you started the more success you’ll have had.

That’s still the case in 2026. It’ll be harder by 2028.

But the pace of change has accelerated so much recently it feels right to call it a shift.

Here’s 2 big things things that are at play:

1. It’s rapidly becoming easier and cheaper to make high quality content.

AI tools have made it easier to plan, write, edit and package your videos.

You can now do a lot as a 1 person team, and that will only change more once AI avatars become completely indistinguishable from the original.

And we’re fast approaching that point in time.

As a result, the supply of high quality content on the platform is going up. Because more people can make great content.

AI tools don't suddenly mean everyone will make great content. Things like taste, storytelling, and your backstory take time to develop.

But the competition is rising and it’ll be harder to get views every day.

2. People losing their jobs because of AI will turn to the internet to make money.

This is a spicier one.

As more and more low level, entry jobs are impacted by AI and businesses hire fewer employees, more people will try to make money online.

In fact, one of the students in my coaching programme Charles already lost his job to AI.

At least he got a 400k view video out of it (and more people into his coaching funnel).

But if you’re already dabbling in the online business space, you’re ahead of most people.

Most people have no idea how to actually make $$$ online.

The majority of my friends would be toast if they had to sell something through the internet.

Actual toast 🍞

But people will have to figure it out. And they’ll realise they need to make content to advertise their services.

LinkedIn, X, Instagram and guess what…YouTube!

Competition has been increasing since day 1, but the threat of AI is a real one.

And these platforms will be even more flooded with content.

Now I’m not gonna hit you with a “there’s still time if you act now!”.

There will still be a million ways to make money in 3 years time. Probably more.

And I’m sure YouTube will still be kicking butt.

But here’s one truth.

It’ll be harder to get views.

And if you want to make a living through YouTube then I’d advise learning an important skill.

Monetising your views as efficiently as possible.

Adsense might pay you a $5 for 1,000 views (your RPM).

But we want your RPM from your overall monetisation strategy (not just adsense) to be as high as possible.

It’s simple math.

If views go down, your RPM must go up to sustain the same income.

And the best way to do that is to develop your own offers to help your audience.

Coaching, courses, services, communities.

Choose your fighter, and just get moving.

If you want a roadmap, last week's video is a step by step breakdown of building a 6-figure business from YouTube.

I'm really proud of this one. It’s a remake of a similar video I made last year, but better.

Let me know what you think. I reply to every comment.

Bloody hell, it’s Q2. I never used to think or care about quarters, but now that I’m a fully fledged Business Bro, I have to. It’s in the manual you get given at Business Bro initiation. Along with the requirements to go gym and make content. But I'm excited about Q2, because we’ve just ticked off a big project in the business, and freed up a lot of time. I started 2026 thinking I was going to go all in on content to grow my audience. And that’s what I did...for about 2 weeks. Something felt...

Quick note before we dive in, I'm launching a Spring cohort of my coaching programme The $100k YouTuber this Monday April 6th. There's limited spots, if you'd like to book a call to talk about whether it's right for you, you can do so here. "Repeat the same activities. Repeat the same outcomes." This is one of my favourite Hormozi quotes I've been dwelling on recently. It's taken on a new meaning for me. For a long time, I only understood this intellectually. "Sure, if I repeat the same...
